Caracalla, 198-217. Dupondius (Orichalcum, 26 mm, 9.90 g, 6 h), Rome, 212. ANTONINVS PIVS AVG BRIT Radiate head of Caracalla to right. Rev. P M TR P XV COS III P P / S - C Mars standing front, head to left, holding Victory in his right hand and spear and shield set on ground in his left; at his feet, bound captive seated left. BMC -, cf. 237 (no captive). Cohen 202. RIC 492. Rare. A beautiful example with an attractive glossy green patina and an excellent portrait. Minor deposits, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
